FAQ
What makes our cutting boards different?
Our boards are finely handcrafted from carefully selected local hardwoods and artisan designed with performance and longevity in mind. We focus on end grain construction, which is gentler on knives, more durable over time, and naturally self-healing.
What is an end grain cutting board?
End grain boards are made by orienting the wood fibers vertically. This allows knife edges to slide between the fibers rather than cutting across them, helping preserve your knives and reduce visible wear.
Are your cutting boards food safe?
Yes. Every board is finished with a food-safe blend of mineral oil and natural wax. No harmful chemicals or synthetic finishes are used.
How do I clean my cutting board?
- Wash with warm water on all sides and mild soap (as needed)
- Dry immediately with a towel
- Do not soak or place in the dishwasher
- Stand on edge to dry
How often should I oil my board?
We recommend oiling:
- Once a week for the first month
- Once a month after that (or when the wood looks dry or if water no longer beads on the surface, it’s time to oil).
- Regular maintenance keeps the wood hydrated and prevents cracking.
Can I put my board in the dishwasher?
No. Dishwashers expose the board to excessive heat and water, which can cause warping, cracking, and permanent damage.
Will my board crack or warp?
Wood is a natural material and responds to its environment. With proper care—regular oiling and avoiding prolonged moisture—your board will remain stable and last for years.
Do you offer custom sizes or designs?
Yes. We offer custom boards tailored to your preferences, including size, wood type, and features like juice grooves or handles. Contact us to discuss your project.
What woods do you use?
We primarily use locally sourced premium hardwoods from Western North Carolina such as:
- Walnut
- Maple
- Cherry
- White Oak
All woods are selected for durability, beauty, and food safety.
Are cutting board feet necessary?
Feet add stability and improve airflow underneath the board, but some customers prefer a flat, reversible surface. We offer both options.
Do you offer resurfacing or refinishing?
Yes. Over time, all boards show wear. We offer a resurfacing service to restore your board to like-new condition. Contact us for more details.
How long will my cutting board last?
With proper care, a high-quality end grain board can last decades and often becomes a generational piece.
Do you ship nationwide?
Yes, we ship across the United States. Each board is carefully packaged to ensure it arrives in perfect condition.
Each board is made to order and typically takes 2-3 weeks to craft and ship.
What is your return policy?
If there is an issue with your order, please contact us within a specified timeframe. Because each board is handcrafted, slight variations are part of the product’s character.
Are your boards good for gifting?
Absolutely. Our boards are popular for weddings, housewarmings, and corporate gifts.
